PONTE AI MURI
STUDY ABROAD . DESIGN STUDIO 3 . FALL 2016 . ROMA, ITALIA
The program was a bridge across the Tevere river in Rome that would follow the Michalgelo’s axis connecting Palazzo Farnese to Villa Farnesina. In addition, a museum, a water research center and a garden were supposed to be included.
The Tiber River once was the trade connection between the city of Rome and the rest of the world. It served as an active participant in the urban fabric. Since the completion of the Tiber Walls, this union became a separation and the river became static and unconnected. Inspired by John Hadjuk’s Wall House 2, our project’s base is the concept of division. By highlighting the separation of the two sides of the river we inversely emphasize connection through the contrast between monumentality and fragility.
