LIGHT PATH
M.ARCH . DESIGN STUDIO 1 . FALL 2018 . INSTRUCTOR: ERIC HAAS . LOS ANGELES, USA
The aim for this project was to use light, darkness and the search for light as the main way around and inside the building. Orthogonal shapes and a brutalist design contrast with the landscape while the form is extruded out from the ground and revelas itself.
Starting from the ground floor (top level) the visitors walk through a rigid bridge that crosses the entire structure and gives the opportunity to peak through spaces that their are about to experience. As they go down to the first basement floor, there si the opportunity to stop and enjoy the view while planning the rest of the path. Going down one more floor and staying under the bridge, people can see where they were before and experience the light from the outisde. A door leads to a darker room where almost no light exists, but after that the last floor reveals a space lit by not only the outisde light from above but also from the front opening.
